Wedoany.com Report on Mar 17th, Petronas, through its subsidiary located offshore East Java, Indonesia, has successfully discovered oil and gas resources at the Baroka-1 exploration well within the North Ketapang Production Sharing Contract (PSC) block. This discovery marks the first oil and gas find since drilling commenced in the contract area, injecting new momentum into regional energy development.
The Baroka-1 well commenced drilling on November 30, 2025, reaching a true vertical depth subsea (TVDSS) of 3,315.3 meters. The drilling operation revealed multiple hydrocarbon-bearing intervals. Further evaluation will be conducted to analyze the well results and determine its commercial potential. The well is located in a mature exploration area of the East Java Basin, surrounded by several producing oil and gas fields.
As the operator of the North Ketapang PSC, Petronas holds a 51% participating interest. Earthon North Ketapang holds a 34% interest, and Indonesia's national oil company, Pertamina, holds the remaining 15%. This successful discovery validates the exploration potential of the contract block and provides confidence for the partners' subsequent investments in the region.
The oil and gas discovery at the Baroka-1 well further expands Petronas's upstream activities offshore East Java. The company currently operates several other PSCs in the region, including Ketapang, North Madura II, and Serpang, and holds interests in multiple onshore and offshore blocks in West Papua offshore, Sumatra, the Natuna Sea, and Eastern Indonesia. By continuously expanding its exploration and development footprint in Indonesia, Petronas is strengthening its upstream business position in Southeast Asia.
