Wedoany.com Report on Mar 18th, ExxonMobil's newly launched polyolefin product portfolio brand, Signature Polymers, in collaboration with Germany's Reifenhäuser, has developed a breakthrough stretch hood film. This product can contain up to 35% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, primarily sourced from household waste streams. This innovation aims to address the challenges of using household-origin PCR, which is often contaminated and of inconsistent quality, in high-performance industrial packaging. Through advanced materials and process technology, low-quality PCR is transformed into high-performance packaging solutions.High-performance PCR stretch hood film

This high-performance PCR stretch hood film utilizes ExxonMobil's proprietary materials, including Exceed Tough+ m 0512 high-performance polyethylene, Vistamaxx 6102 performance polymer, and Exceed Tough+ m 0211 low melt index polyethylene, combined with PCR resin Systalen LD-C12200 from Germany's "Yellow Bag" recycling system. Reifenhäuser's EVO Fusion production line employs twin-screw technology, providing strong shear forces, thorough homogenization, and effective volatiles extraction, ensuring uniform mixing of PCR with virgin resin and producing a film free of bubbles and resistant to mechanical stress. The addition of permanent slip additives like CONSTAB SL 05077 LD addresses friction control challenges, enabling the film to maintain stable performance throughout processing and use.

Tests on the Lachenmeier stretch hood system showed that this high-performance PCR stretch hood film excels in key metrics such as friction control, tear resistance, and load retention. It provides excellent holding force, elastic recovery, and resistance to tear propagation, ensuring secure load containment and protection during transport. This innovation has been shortlisted for the "Product Technology Innovation of the Year" category in the 2026 European Plastics Recycling Awards, highlighting industry recognition for sustainable packaging solutions.

The launch of ExxonMobil's Signature Polymers reflects the company's commitment to sustainability and technological advancement, promoting value chain collaboration through a unified polyolefin product brand. This high-performance PCR stretch hood film project demonstrates how low-quality, household-origin PCR materials can be transformed for industrial packaging applications, driving the circular economy while meeting market demand for environmentally friendly solutions.
