en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 24th, Unilever has launched Persil and Comfort Smart Series detergent pods in the UK, specifically designed for Samsung's auto-dispense washing machines. This product targets consumers seeking efficient laundry solutions, with projections indicating that by 2030, one in four households will use such auto-dispense washing machines. Samsung's Auto Dispense technology can store a month's supply of detergent and automatically dispense the correct dose based on the laundry load.

In a media discussion, Tati Lindenberg, Chief Marketing Officer of Unilever's Home Care division, stated: "Smart auto-dispense washing machines not only understand the amount of laundry but can also identify fabric and stain types. This changes how the machine dispenses the dose, and for us, it's crucial to create a product that consistently delivers optimal performance." The Smart Series detergent pods use flexible plastic packaging, designed to be lightweight to suit a direct-to-consumer delivery model.
Regarding packaging sustainability, Lindenberg responded: "Flexible plastic is not the best solution for single-use. We are exploring other options, such as easily recyclable PET bottles and paper bags." Unilever has extended its deadline to achieve 100% recyclable flexible plastic packaging and has switched the Wonder Wash detergent bottle in the UK to packaging made from 100% post-consumer recycled material. The Smart Series detergent pods come with a plastic nozzle to address messiness during dispensing, which may help reduce product consumption.
Samsung claims its auto-dispense washing machines can reduce detergent usage by up to 15%. Unilever also influences packaging design through AI features, collaborating with Design Bridge to create an "orb" pattern for the Detergent Optimization & Smart Estimation campaign, aiming to position the brand as keeping pace with technological advancements. Lindenberg noted: "We believe this is a way to showcase technology while building more aspiration for laundry products." This design is expected to help consumers associate the Smart Series detergent with auto-dispense technology.
