Wedoany.com Report-Dec 16, The Bush Bay rail line at Cedarville Operations in Michigan has introduced a battery-electric railcar into revenue service, a shift in the operational approach for freight movement.
Developed as part of a collaboration between Carmeuse and Intramotev, the railcar operates independently of traditional diesel locomotives, reducing the need for additional motive power along the line.
The railcar uses Intramotev's TugVolt technology, which supports the transportation of materials without relying on a second diesel locomotive. This development contributes to efforts aimed at reducing diesel consumption and lowering CO2 emissions in rail freight operations.
The implementation of the battery-electric railcar aligns with industry trends focusing on energy-efficient alternatives in logistics and freight rail. The Cedarville deployment reflects an approach centered on leveraging battery technology to support rail operations while addressing sustainability objectives.
