en.Wedoany.com Reported - Thailand's telecommunications operator True Corp launched a new project on Wednesday, collaborating with domestic and international institutions to advance quantum computing technology in Thailand and position the country as a quantum computing hub in Southeast Asia.

True Corp launches project to position Thailand as Southeast Asia's quantum computing hub

The project, named "Quantum AI and Smart Infrastructure Joint Research Collaboration," involves True signing a memorandum of understanding with the local quantum technology collaboration network QTRic (Quantum Technology Research Joint Initiative Alliance) and U.S. quantum software platform startup qBraid. The goal is to build a complete quantum ecosystem and establish a concrete framework for joint development of quantum technologies.

The research project covers four core pillars of collaboration: Quantum AI and "quantum-inspired optimization" (used to solve complex problems that traditional computing cannot handle), autonomous infrastructure and intelligent systems, modeling (especially advanced simulation and digital twin technologies), and quantum-driven cybersecurity.

Ekaraj Panjavinin, Head of Research and Innovation at True Corp, stated that this initiative will strengthen research, talent development, and regional quantum AI experimental platform capabilities, driving Thailand to a leading position in quantum technology and smart infrastructure in Southeast Asia. He noted that the True Innovation Center of Excellence currently has certified quantum experts, but developing emerging technologies requires cross-industry collaboration. This partnership is a first in Thailand and sets a benchmark for advancing technology in a substantive way. The goal is to develop functional prototypes usable in practical industries, rather than remaining at the conceptual or laboratory level, to maximize benefits and enhance the global competitiveness of Thai technology.

True will participate in the project through its True Innovation Center of Excellence. The center plans to leverage True's ecosystem—including telecommunications infrastructure, R&D laboratories, and True Digital Park—to build a quantum community capable of attracting quantum experts to Thailand.

QTRic brings together 19 Thai institutions with a total of over 120 researchers and is supported by Thailand's Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). qBraid will provide relevant tools, such as the cloud-based quantum computing platform qBraid Lab and the platform-agnostic quantum runtime framework qBraid-SDK for quantum software and hardware vendors. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Worawat Meevasana, a physics professor at Suranaree University of Technology and Chairman of QTRic, stated that the collaboration between QTRic and U.S. technology partner qBraid gives Thai researchers access to world-class quantum computer hardware. When combined with True Corp's capabilities, this synergy will transform academic resources and cutting-edge tools into tangible quantum innovations, generating sustainable commercial value.

Ricky Young, Chief Operating Officer of qBraid, said that qBraid will serve as a one-stop platform connecting Thai researchers, innovators, and enterprises, enabling them to access and fully utilize over 26 world-leading quantum computer systems via the cloud without the need for local hardware. This is a critical first step in advancing quantum technology in Thailand.
