en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, the Longyan Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment issued a public notice, proposing to make an approval decision on the 50,000 tons/year Lithium Iron Phosphate Comprehensive Utilization Project (Phase I) invested and constructed by Fujian Youli New Energy Co., Ltd. The project is located in the Jiaoyang New Materials Industrial Park, Shanghang County, Longyan City, Fujian Province, China. This public notice is due to significant changes caused by process adjustments during project construction, necessitating the re-submission of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) documents. The Lithium Iron Phosphate Comprehensive Utilization Project previously obtained the EIA approval document Long Huan Shen [2024] No. 132 in June 2024.
The aforementioned Lithium Iron Phosphate Comprehensive Utilization Project is jointly developed by GAC Group and Zijin Mining Group. In August 2023, Youpai Energy, a subsidiary of GAC Group, and Zijin Lithium Yuan, a subsidiary of Zijin Mining Group, jointly invested to establish Fujian Youli New Energy Co., Ltd. The project has a total investment of 1.16 billion yuan, planning to build a comprehensive utilization capacity of 50,000 tons/year for lithium iron phosphate batteries, with Phase I construction scale being 20,000 tons/year. The latest public notice from the Longyan Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment shows that after the changes, the Lithium Iron Phosphate Comprehensive Utilization Project will still construct two 10,000 tons/year waste lithium iron phosphate battery processing production lines, while adding a 500 cubic meters/day extraction system for coarse carbon scrubbing and centrifuging mother liquor (sourced from the Zijin Lithium Yuan lithium carbonate project) to produce lithium bicarbonate solution and sodium chloride.
Upon completion and operation, the project will comprehensively utilize 20,000 tons of waste lithium iron phosphate batteries annually, producing 88,093.4 tons of lithium bicarbonate solution, 57,391 tons of iron phosphate solution, 8,524.5 tons of graphite, with by-products including 1,339.2 tons of copper particles (powder), 1,940 tons of aluminum particles (powder), 21,512.5 tons of sodium sulfate, and 8,673 tons of sodium chloride. The Lithium Iron Phosphate Comprehensive Utilization Project uses waste lithium iron phosphate battery cells that cannot be repurposed for cascade utilization as raw materials. Through physical separation processes such as crushing and high-temperature carbonization, black mass and copper and aluminum metals are obtained, followed by hydrometallurgical processes like acid leaching and extraction to recover iron phosphate solution and lithium bicarbonate solution.
