en.Wedoany.com Reported - The upgrade project of the Boregaon to Shahpur highway in Madhya Pradesh, India, is progressing. This section is part of National Highway 753L and aims to improve regional agricultural logistics and inter-state connectivity. The Khandwa and Burhanpur districts of Madhya Pradesh produce over 1.7 million tons of bananas annually, with approximately 140 heavy-duty trucks transporting these bananas to domestic markets daily. Previously, narrow and damaged roads led to extended travel times and logistical bottlenecks. Currently, under the Bharatmala Pariyojana framework, this road section is being upgraded into a modern four-lane corridor.

Boregaon-Shahpur Highway Boosts Connectivity in Central India

Developed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the project is estimated to cost ₹9.44 billion. The section, approximately 47 kilometers long, connects Boregaon Bujurg to Muktainagar in Maharashtra, with about 85% of the construction work completed. Once finished, it will provide a faster, safer, and more efficient connection between Indore and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The corridor traverses an agriculturally rich region known for bananas, cotton, soybeans, and wheat. The upgraded highway aims to reduce transportation costs and help farmers deliver their products to markets more quickly. Daily life in villages along the route has already improved, with smoother movement for heavy vehicles and reduced delays for local travel.

The project includes 1 railway overbridge (ROB), 7 major bridges, 20 minor bridges, and 98 culverts. To maintain connectivity for villages and farms, 14 underpasses are also planned, including 3 light vehicle underpasses, 5 car underpasses, and 6 motor vehicle underpasses. Approximately 26 kilometers of bypass roads are planned to divert heavy vehicles and through traffic away from towns, while 19 kilometers of service roads will be built to ensure local travel safety. These facilities are designed to preserve local connectivity and avoid disruptions to daily commutes.

This corridor will strengthen the inter-state route connecting Indore, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Jalgaon, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and provide an alternative economic route, helping to reduce congestion on traditional roads. Additionally, access to medical and emergency services will also be improved.
