en.Wedoany.com Reported - The first phase of the Atlantic Aerodrome in the Swartland region of South Africa's Western Cape province will officially open in September. The facility, costing R500 million, is dedicated to general aviation and turboprop aircraft.

Lulenco Plant Hire serves as the main civil contractor for the project, with Exeo Khokela Civil Engineering Construction involved in civil works. NK Development Solutions has been appointed as the builder, alongside several other specialized contractors participating in the construction.

Atlantic Aerodrome founder Riaan Cilliers stated that the new facility, a 40-minute drive from Cape Town, aims to meet the growing demand in the Western Cape for dedicated aviation infrastructure. The region's general aviation sector is growing rapidly, and existing hangars and suitable facilities are in short supply.

Atlantic Aerodrome is designed to serve aircraft owners, operators, flight training organizations, charter companies, and aviation businesses. The facility will offer aircraft owners a turnkey solution, combining secure, enclosed hangars with operational support such as refueling, cleaning, and ground handling services.

Hangar options range from 225 square meters for individual aircraft owners to 1,800 square meters for large operators, flight schools, and charter services. All hangars are equipped with 24/7 biometric security systems, direct airside access, and a modern, enclosed environment.

The airport features a grooved asphalt runway 02/20, measuring 884 meters, with plans to extend it to 1,524 meters. It is equipped with a full LED lighting system to support all-weather operations and a planned GNSS instrument approach system. The facility targets an ACR/PCR rating of 23/F/B/X/T.

At the heart of the development is a 1,200-square-meter, two-story clubhouse, featuring a restaurant, VIP lounge, pilot facilities, event space, and a children's playground suitable for families.

Phase one will open in September, equipped with core facilities, hangars, fixed-base operator services, the clubhouse, and guest accommodation. Phase two will focus on continued expansion of the airport, including extending the runway, developing additional hangar capacity for commercial operators, expanding FBO services, adding helicopter hangars and helipad facilities, and increasing on-site guest accommodation capacity.
