en.Wedoany.com Reported - Lansdowne Children’s Centre has selected Montgomery Sisam Architects to design its new dedicated facility in Brantford, Ontario.
The new facility, located at 168 Colborne St. W., was announced last August and is adjacent to the organization’s current site at 39 Mount Pleasant St., allowing Lansdowne to remain in the core of the community.
Since the announcement, the Lansdowne Capital Steering Committee has worked with the Government of Ontario to advance the development plan to the next stage.
Rita-Marie Hadley, Executive Director of Lansdowne Children’s Centre, stated that selecting an architect is an exciting and significant milestone for the centre, representing years of planning, collaboration, and advocacy, bringing them closer to creating a space that truly supports the children and families they serve. She expressed heartfelt gratitude for the commitment of the Government of Ontario and the exceptional work of the Capital Steering Committee in advancing the project.
This accredited children’s treatment centre has served the Brantford community since 1974, providing specialized assessment, treatment, and support services to infants, children, and youth with physical, developmental, and/or communication needs, as well as their families. In addition to the City of Brantford, the centre serves Brant, Haldimand, and Norfolk counties, Six Nations of the Grand River, and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
The centre began at Lansdowne Public School on Preston Boulevard, moved to its current location in 1998, and operates sites in Caledonia, Dunnville, and Simcoe, serving nearly 4,000 children and youth. Due to space constraints and increasing service demand, the existing 25,000-square-foot facility is no longer adequate, and the search for a new centre location has been ongoing for several years.
The new space is planned as a three-story, approximately 100,000-square-foot facility with sustainable design to support expanded programs, interdisciplinary collaboration, and improved accessibility for children and families amid growing demand.
According to the Lansdowne Children’s Centre website, with the architect selected, the project enters an exciting new phase, focusing on detailed design and site development to realize the vision for the new centre.
Reports indicate the project cost is $100 million CAD, with the City of Brantford approving a $2 million CAD contribution spread over five years. Funding will also come from private donations.
Santiago Kunzle, Principal at Montgomery Sisam Architects, stated that the firm is delighted to collaborate with Lansdowne Children’s Centre on this transformative project, noting that the new building offers an excellent opportunity to create an inspiring, family-centred, community-oriented, and adaptable dedicated space. He looks forward to working with Lansdowne, families, and partners to realize their vision.
