en.Wedoany.com Reported - On June 3, China Nuclear Industry Huaxing Construction Co., Ltd. (CNI Huaxing) officially released and put into operation its integrated "Smart Nuclear Power Plant Construction Safety Monitoring Robot" system at the Nanjing Binjiang Intelligent Construction R&D Base. The system consists of the "Nuclear Power Plant Construction Safety Inspection Fixed Sentry" fixed monitoring equipment and the "Nuclear Power Plant Construction Safety Inspection Robot Dog" mobile inspection equipment, driving the transformation and upgrade of nuclear power plant construction safety management from manual monitoring to a collaborative "fixed sentry + mobile inspection" control model.
Unlike previous single-device monitoring models, the fixed equipment monitors high-risk areas, while the mobile robot dog navigates complex working conditions and covers "blind spots and dead corners." The two complement each other, achieving round-the-clock, no-blind-spot monitoring.
The "Nuclear Power Plant Construction Safety Inspection Fixed Sentry" is a portable fixed intelligent device weighing approximately 7 kg, which can be rapidly deployed in key operational areas such as hot work zones and flammable material warehouses. The device provides high-definition video, infrared thermal imaging, and multiple gas sensors, enabling round-the-clock continuous monitoring of hot work operations, fire hazards, hazardous gas leaks, as well as ambient temperature, humidity, oxygen concentration, and carbon dioxide concentration. It also supports facial recognition of workers, detection of personal protective equipment (PPE), and identification of abnormal behaviors such as falls and phone use. All algorithms run locally on the edge device without relying on backend servers.
The "Nuclear Power Plant Construction Safety Inspection Robot Dog" is a fully functional intelligent inspection robot developed for complex and hazardous areas that are difficult for personnel to access, such as pipeline corridors, multi-story buildings, and confined spaces. Equipped with LiDAR and machine vision sensors, it supports high-precision 3D mapping of complex indoor and outdoor environments, enabling centimeter-level autonomous navigation and automatic execution of immediate, scheduled, and periodic inspection tasks.
Unlike fixed equipment, the robot dog can proactively patrol and dynamically identify potential hazards—using dual-spectrum thermal imaging pan-tilt to monitor abnormal temperature rises in welding machines, gas cylinders, and work surfaces, providing early warnings of fire risks caused by welding slag splatter and high-temperature accumulations; simultaneously, it identifies personnel violations through high-definition cameras. All edge devices are centrally managed through the "Safety Cockpit" system, which automatically generates hazard rectification records based on alarm information, forming a closed-loop management process.
These two achievements represent another innovative result from CNI Huaxing's Cheng Xiaohua Innovation Studio, which has long been dedicated to research and development in the field of intelligent nuclear power plant construction. The studio has achieved 13 industry-first artificial intelligence+ technological breakthroughs in areas such as robotic automated welding, fully automatic processing of metal components, automated construction under complex on-site installation conditions, and digital management and control. The recently released "Fixed Sentry + Robot Dog" integrated system further integrates computer vision, edge computing, and robotics technology into the safety management and control framework, significantly improving the accuracy of identifying risks such as hot work operations, fire hazards, and hazardous gas leaks, greatly reducing manual inspection workloads, and enhancing intrinsic safety levels.
Currently, the system has completed testing and validation at CNI Huaxing's Nanjing Binjiang base and the "Bailong" nuclear power plant. In the future, it will be combined with drone equipment to build a three-dimensional smart safety monitoring network for nuclear power plants, continuously promoting the digital and intelligent transformation of nuclear power plant construction safety management.
