Wedoany.com Report-Feb 25, QatarEnergy and Guangzhou Guanggang Gases & Energy Company Ltd (G-gas) have entered into a long-term sales and purchase agreement (SPA) for helium supply. The agreement stipulates that Qatar will provide 100 million cubic feet of helium per year to China over a 20-year period. This marks the first direct, extended-term helium supply contract between Qatar and China.

The helium, characterized by its high purity, will originate from Qatar’s advanced facilities in Ras Laffan. The signing of the SPA took place at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha, attended by senior executives from both G-gas and QatarEnergy. The ceremony was overseen by Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy.

During the event, Minister al-Kaabi remarked: “China is a major market and destination for Qatari helium, and we are very pleased to enter into this direct long-term partnership with G-gas as we help meet the growing demand for helium both in China and across the globe.” He further noted: “Qatar is one of the world’s largest helium exporters and this agreement further expands QatarEnergy’s growing list of partnerships and customers around the globe. Our helium capacity will more than double with our North Field LNG expansion projects. This will further support a wide range of sectors and industries that depend on helium to drive human development.”

Helium plays an essential role in various fields, including scientific research, medical technology, high-tech manufacturing, space exploration, and defense sectors. Qatar’s high-quality helium supports applications such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, semiconductor production, specialized welding, deep-sea diving, industrial cooling, entertainment, and other uses.

G-gas, a prominent industrial gases company in China, brings over 50 years of experience to the partnership. The company focuses on designing and operating air separation units, managing gas storage and distribution systems, and providing gas application solutions.

The agreement strengthens ties between Qatar and China in the energy sector, ensuring a steady helium supply to meet China’s increasing needs. Qatar’s position as a leading helium exporter is reinforced through this deal, which aligns with its plans to expand production capacity in the coming years. The collaboration highlights a mutual commitment to supporting industries reliant on helium globally.
