The data centre is set for completion by the end of 2026.
Wedoany.com Report-Feb 26, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) has started construction on a new data center, STT Johor 1, located within the STT Johor data center campus in Malaysia. The ground-breaking ceremony took place at Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park in Iskandar Puteri, led by Johor Chief Minister YAB Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The facility is scheduled to begin full operations by the end of next year. Covering over 22 acres, the STT Johor campus is designed to support up to 120MW of IT load when fully developed. STT Johor 1, the initial building on this site, will have a capacity of 16MW.
The campus’s strategic position will enable strong connectivity, including links to STT Singapore 5, a key regional hub for STT GDC. STT Johor 1 is set to meet growing needs for cloud services and high-performance computing from its launch.
The data center will handle complex computing tasks for businesses, government bodies, and cloud providers, supporting advanced research and data-based decisions across multiple sectors.
STT GDC aims to use renewable and low-carbon energy to operate the STT Johor campus. The company is negotiating with providers like Ditrolic Energy to secure clean power for STT Johor 1.
Darryll Sinnappa, STT GDC Malaysia country head, stated: “The STT Johor data centre campus marks a significant milestone for STT GDC in our efforts to deliver advanced digital infrastructure that can play a role in contributing to Malaysia’s ambitions to grow their digital economy leadership in the region.”
Last November, STT GDC partnered with Basis Bay through a joint venture to build and manage data centers in Kuala Lumpur and Cyberjaya, further expanding its presence in Malaysia.
