en.Wedoany.com Reported - Students from Leeds College of Building (LCB) achieved one of the best results in the college's history at the 2026 SkillBuild regional qualifiers. SkillBuild is the largest construction skills competition in the UK, open to apprentices and trainees.

Organised by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), SkillBuild consists of regional qualifiers across the UK, testing technical expertise, skill, character, professionalism, and ability to work under pressure across 12 trade disciplines. Leeds College of Building hosted a regional qualifier on June 2 at its South Bank and North Street campuses, where 13 of the 27 award places were secured by college students among the 78 participants that day. Nationally, over 1,100 entrants representing 223 organisations registered for the 2026 SkillBuild competition.

Mark Sims, SkillBuild Coordinator at Leeds College of Building, said the college was proud of the many students who took part, with 13 placing in the top three of their respective trades, and all participants demonstrating exceptional dedication and professionalism. Winners are awaiting judges' decisions on progression to the national finals, where the top eight from regional qualifiers across the country will compete from November 17 to 19 at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes.

The college has a strong track record in SkillBuild. In 2022, apprentice Zara Dupont won first place in Plastering and Drywall Systems; in 2023, three students won medals; in 2024, four students made the podium; and last year, two apprentices won the national finals, taking first and second place in the Roof Slating and Tiling category.

The list of 2026 Leeds College of Building regional winners includes: Oliver Harrison, first place in Carpentry; James Naylor, first place in Dry Lining, Ali Dehghani second, and Oliwier Mocarski third; Dylan Jones, second place in Furniture and Cabinet Making, and Haitch Rosso third; Faith Loynes, second place in Painting and Decorating; Spencer Lee, first place in Plastering; Luke Lewis, second place in Roof Slating and Tiling, and Stephen Anderson third; Ashton Webber, first place in Wall and Floor Tiling, Thomas Bewick second, and Ben Cahill third.
