en.Wedoany.com Reported - Oil India Limited has discovered natural gas in its third exploration well in the Andaman shallow offshore block. The well, named Vijayapuram-3, is located in block AN-OSHP-2018/1 (delineated under India's Open Acreage Licensing Policy), 15 kilometers off the east coast of the Andaman Islands at a water depth of 355 meters.

Oil India hits gas at Vijayapuram-3 in Andaman shallow offshore block

During initial production testing at depths exceeding 1,900 meters in the Eocene formation, the presence of natural gas was confirmed through sustained flaring. Immediate pressure buildup was observed after perforation. Gas sampling is currently underway to assess composition and calorific value, along with isotope studies to determine the origin of the natural gas.

To date, two of the three exploration wells drilled in this block have confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons. The second exploration well, Vijayapuram-2, reported gas shows in September 2025. Following this discovery, Oil India completed reprocessing of existing 2D seismic data and acquired an additional 600 square kilometers of 3D seismic data. Processing and interpretation of the seismic data are ongoing, with plans to drill appraisal wells subsequently.
