en.Wedoany.com Reported - Gealan has started construction of a new recycling plant at its production logistics center in Germany's Tanna, with a project investment of €6 million, aimed at enhancing material recycling capacity, optimizing internal processes, and further advancing its circular economy strategy.

The facility, covering approximately 1,800 square meters, is expected to be fully operational by 2028, consolidating all current recycling activities carried out by the company in one location. This centralization will improve logistics management, reduce internal transportation between production centers, and increase the amount of recyclable material reused in the manufacturing of window and door systems.

The new plant is primarily designed to process PVC waste generated during production. The recycled material will be crushed, sorted, and processed into granules, which will be reintroduced as raw materials into the manufacturing process. According to the company, the increased capacity helps reduce the consumption of virgin resources and boosts the supply of recycled materials used in profile production.

The project also includes plans to build a new storage platform equipped with silos capable of holding hundreds of tons of recycled material. In the first phase, a fixed silo with a capacity of 130 tons and two mobile silos with capacities of 55 tons each will be installed.

In addition to recycling activities, the facility will integrate a centralized system for storing extrusion tools used in profile manufacturing. Consolidating these activities in one location will streamline internal processes, reduce movement between facilities, and improve operational efficiency related to material and resource management.

The main building is scheduled for completion by 2027, followed by the installation of mechanical and technical systems until the plant reaches full production in 2028.

The new infrastructure is part of Gealan's sustainability strategy, which focuses on reducing the environmental impact of industrial activities and promoting a production model based on material circularity. Currently, over 30% of the materials used in the company's profiles come from recycled sources, primarily integrated into the product core layer.

This strategy has recently been reinforced with the development of BalanceE, a variant of the Gealan system manufactured using ISCC Plus-certified bio-based PVC. According to the company, this solution can reduce raw material-related emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional PVC, while maintaining the same technical performance and durability.

Furthermore, sustainability has been integrated into other business areas such as product design, energy efficiency, and resource management. To this end, Gealan established a dedicated team in 2024 to coordinate initiatives related to decarbonization, circular economy, and responsible material management across the entire organization.
