According to the consultancy's data, India's current operational data center capacity stands at 1.6 GW, while the future development pipeline is equivalent to more than five times the existing operational capacity, highlighting the scale of planned infrastructure in major markets.

Specifically, 0.32 GW of data center capacity is currently under construction, 2.92 GW has entered the committed development stage, and another 5.41 GW of projects are in the early development stage, indicating a substantial project pipeline for Indian data centers.

Mumbai remains the largest future data center market within India, with a development pipeline of 3.75 GW, including 0.17 GW under construction, 1.54 GW in committed development, and 2.21 GW in early-stage projects. Hyderabad has emerged as India's second-largest future data center market, with a development pipeline of 1.93 GW, comprising 0.03 GW under construction, 0.63 GW in committed projects, and 1.30 GW in early-stage development. The city's growth is driven by proactive government policies, lower operational costs, and investments from global technology companies, attracting more developers and investors for new digital infrastructure capacity.

Chennai ranks as India's third-largest future data center market, with a development pipeline of 1.36 GW, including 0.04 GW under construction, 0.32 GW in committed development, and 1.04 GW in early-stage projects. Chennai benefits from its role as a gateway for digital traffic to Southeast Asia, leveraging strong submarine cable connectivity and competitive electricity tariffs to sustain its position as a key data center destination in India.

Beyond the three leading cities, data center planned capacity is also growing in other regions. Knight Frank India estimates that the National Capital Region (NCR) has a future pipeline of 0.54 GW, Pune 0.43 GW, Bengaluru 0.18 GW, and Kolkata 0.13 GW, collectively driving the expansion of India's digital infrastructure landscape. Additionally, Vizag, as an emerging market, has attracted gigawatt-level development proposals, with government initiatives, availability of large land parcels, and planned submarine cable projects supporting interest in the city.
