en.Wedoany.com Reported - Australia's Austal, through its Vietnam subsidiary Austal Vietnam, has delivered its first steel-aluminum hybrid vessel—the 71-meter passenger-cargo ship Dory 2—to French Polynesia's Degage Group.

Following comprehensive sea trials, the handover ceremony was held on June 15, 2026, at Austal's shipyard in Vung Tau. Designed by Austal Australia, Dory 2 began construction in 2024 and was launched in March 2026. The vessel features a steel monohull and aluminum superstructure, marking Austal Vietnam's expansion from exclusively aluminum construction to multi-material shipbuilding.

This is the seventh vessel delivered by Austal to the Degage Group since 2003, with the most recent prior delivery being the 66-meter Apetahi Express in 2023. Eugene Degage, owner and Managing Director of the Degage Group, stated that Dory 2 is a welcome addition to the company's fleet.

Dory 2 is specifically built to operate the route between Papeete and the Palliser Islands in French Polynesia. The vessel can accommodate 140 seated passengers and 17 crew members, with a cruising speed of 12 knots and a range of 1,000 nautical miles. Its cargo hold covers 494 square meters, capable of carrying containers, palletized goods, and vehicles, with a deadweight tonnage of 1,400 tons.

Austal Vietnam is Austal's shipbuilding operations base in Vung Tau, Vietnam.
