en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Brazilian Institute of Telecommunications and Digital Solutions (IBTD) is drafting a bill (PL) aimed at incentivizing the deployment of high-capacity backbone networks connecting renewable energy production areas with artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.

Temporarily named "Refibra," the project will complement the Redata project, also supported by the same institute. This will be the first bill proposed by IBTD, with the text expected to be ready in the second half of the year. The bill will be submitted to Congress by the Mixed Parliamentary Front for Telecommunications and Digital Solutions (Frente Parlamentar Mista de Telecomunicações e Soluções Digitais).

"The new generation of AI data centers will prioritize installation in energy-rich regions. Brazil has the opportunity to become a protagonist, but we need to connect these data centers with a new generation of backbone networks," explained André Martins, President of IBTD, in a conversation with Mobile Time.

Martins cited the city of João Câmara (RN) as an example, which is one of the largest wind power generation sites in the Southern Hemisphere. With the Redata and Refibra projects, the city could attract the installation of AI data centers. Similarly, other high renewable energy production regions in the Northeast and Midwest will also benefit.

The specific details of the incentives in the bill have not yet been determined, but the goal is to reduce the installation costs of high-capacity backbone network equipment serving AI data centers in new regions of Brazil.
