en.Wedoany.com Reported - Selangor Industrial Corporation (SIC) and Data Centre Union (DC Union) have signed a joint venture agreement to develop a 65-megawatt high-tech data center in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. The project will be implemented by the joint venture company SIC Quantum Data Centre, with a total investment of RM2.5 billion (approximately USD 602.5 million). Vinodh Mariappa has been appointed as Managing Director.

SIC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS). SIC Group CEO Haji Saharom Mohni stated that this collaboration enables SIC to support state-level digital infrastructure development as a strategic partner, while DC Union's expertise and experience will ensure the project is executed in accordance with international industry standards. This data center is the first of its kind within the PKNS Group ecosystem, aimed at strengthening the Group's participation in the rapidly growing digital industry and high-impact technology sectors. The data center will serve as a supporting platform for the Selangor Smart State agenda, providing secure and reliable data storage and processing services for government agencies, local authorities, and the private sector, while meeting the growing demand for artificial intelligence technology and digital infrastructure in Cyberjaya.

DC Union CEO Tecsun Yeep noted that Malaysia is poised to become a leading hub for artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure in Southeast Asia. This strategic collaboration is a key step in developing sovereign digital capabilities, helping to support innovation, attract strategic investments, and assist organizations in fully leveraging the potential of AI technology. In addition to the 65-megawatt data center, the joint venture will establish a sovereign AI command center and a center of excellence through SIC Quantum Data Centre, aimed at strengthening Cyberjaya's AI capabilities, data security, and digital innovation. Yeep added that the joint venture's vision extends beyond infrastructure construction, focusing on building a digital ecosystem that supports talent development, technological innovation, and strategic cooperation between the public and private sectors.

According to Mordor Intelligence, Malaysia is benefiting from a surge in data center and digital infrastructure investments, with Cyberjaya emerging as a viable alternative to land-scarce Singapore. As of January 2026, Cyberjaya hosts over 20 data centers, attracting hyperscale enterprises such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
