en.Wedoany.com Reported - Russian cloud technology provider Cloud.ru has begun construction of its first proprietary data center in Moscow, expected to be operational by 2027. The facility will be used to expand the company's cloud and artificial intelligence capabilities to meet the growing demands of enterprises and government organizations.

The data center is designed with a capacity of approximately 11MW and can accommodate up to 890 racks, each with a power density of 20kW. Cloud.ru CEO Mikhail Lobotsky did not comment on PUE, specific location, or project investment. However, sources involved in the construction revealed that the data center will be located in Domodedovo. Vasily Pimenov, head of Russian market research at Apple Hills Digital, estimated that engineering infrastructure and construction costs alone could range from 8 to 12 billion rubles.

Cloud.ru currently operates approximately 30,000 servers across nine commercial data centers, with a total IT capacity of 60MW. News of the company's plans to build its own data center first emerged in April 2026. Formerly known as SberCloud, Cloud.ru launched the AI supercomputer Christofari, developed in collaboration with Nvidia, in 2019. This supercomputer is based on a DGX-2 cluster equipped with Tesla V100 chips. Subsequently, the company launched the Christofari Neo supercomputer with double the computing power. In March 2020, Cloud.ru introduced an "advanced cloud platform" based on Huawei technology.

In other parts of Russia, the St. Petersburg Investment Committee has revealed plans to build two data centers in the city's Moskovsky and Vyborgsky districts. However, new data center development nationwide appears to be stagnating. According to data from TechExpo and the Federal Property Management Agency (PKR), approximately 38 data center construction projects in Russia have been suspended over the past three years, during which a total of 128 projects were announced. Moscow is currently the largest data center market in Russia, with St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg forming secondary markets.
