Wedoany.com Report-Apr 4, A design and construction joint venture (JV) has been awarded to AECOM for a major development project in Hong Kong. The project, selected by the Civil Engineering and Development Department of the HKSAR Government, is part of the New Territories North – San Tin / Lok Ma Chau Development Node and is a key initiative for the Northern Metropolis. This development aims to support around 2.5 million people and promote economic growth, innovation, and sustainable urban development.

The San Tin Lok Ma Chau development is set for completion in 2038.

The San Tin Lok Ma Chau development spans approximately 190 hectares (ha) and is set to be completed in 2038. The project will strengthen the domestic innovation and technology sector and provide residential, community, and commercial spaces. AECOM, through its JV partnership with AtkinsRéalis, will deliver a range of services, including design, tender, construction supervision, and environmental monitoring. The company’s approach emphasizes land use optimization, balancing modern development with natural and cultural conservation.

In alignment with the HKSAR Government’s Smart City strategy, AECOM will lead the creation of a unified digital twin platform for the San Tin Technopole project. This platform aims to enhance planning and delivery while supporting government initiatives like the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure and Integrated Capital Works Platform.

The JV also includes AECOM’s involvement in designing and overseeing a 250ha segment of San Tin. Additionally, the company is tasked with conducting an Investigation Study for the Sam Po Shue Wetland Conservation Park, marking the first of its kind in Hong Kong, under the Northern Metropolis Development Strategy.

Notably, AECOM has recently been selected as the lead designer for the second phase of the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LAC MTA) in the U.S.
