en.Wedoany.com Reported - Evonik has strengthened its long-term raw material security by building a new methanol supply system, aiming to stabilize its European methionine production network and reduce emissions. The company has partnered with Lülsdorf Functional Solutions GmbH, Röhm GmbH, and infrastructure company SYNEQT Pipelines to construct a dedicated long-distance pipeline between Lülsdorf and Wesseling.
The pipeline, which will be commissioned in June 2026, directly connects shared regional storage and logistics infrastructure to Evonik's production site. Methanol imported via Lülsdorf now flows directly to Wesseling through the new pipeline, creating a more efficient and integrated supply chain for Evonik and Röhm.
Norbert Steier, Head of Production and Technology at Evonik's Animal Nutrition business line, stated: "This joint solution works in three ways: securing long-term methanol supply for the Wesseling site, reducing Scope 3 emissions, and creating opportunities for future procurement of green methanol." Evonik has invested a high single-digit million euro amount in the project. The company says this will enhance supply chain reliability while improving environmental performance. Compared to the previously used crude oil-based feedstock, the future switch to natural gas-based methanol is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 70%.
