en.Wedoany.com Reported - From June 26 to 28, the 13th China Backfill Mining Technology and Equipment Conference was held in Luoyang City, Henan Province, China. Jointly organized by the Mining Academic Committee of the Nonferrous Metals Society of China, Changsha Institute of Mining Research Co., Ltd., and the National Engineering Research Center for Metal Mining, the conference was themed "Green, Intelligent, Low-Carbon." Aligned with the pulse of industry development, it focused on three key technical objectives: "solid waste resource utilization, intelligent backfilling, and mining area ecological restoration." Deep academic exchanges and discussions were conducted across the entire backfill mining industry chain, covering fundamental theories, cutting-edge materials, intelligent equipment, low-carbon technologies, disaster prevention and control, and ecological restoration.

Leaders and experts attending the conference included Wu Qiang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Pan Dong, Party Secretary and General Manager of Changsha Institute of Mining Research Co., Ltd.; Pang Yueming, Deputy Director of the Information Department of the Nonferrous Metals Society of China; Chu Hongtao, Chairman of the Mining Academic Committee of the Nonferrous Metals Society of China and Party Committee Member and Deputy General Manager of Changsha Institute of Mining Research; and Yin Xiangang, Party Committee Member and Deputy General Manager of Changsha Institute of Mining Research. The opening ceremony was presided over by Chu Hongtao.

Pan Dong first delivered a welcome address on behalf of the organizers. He stated that the country is currently vigorously promoting green and low-carbon development, with the "dual carbon" goals guiding the mining industry. Backfill mining is a core driver for green mine construction, and the state has explicitly required newly built underground mines to prioritize the use of backfill mining methods. The year 2026 marks the beginning of the "15th Five-Year Plan" and also the 70th anniversary of the founding of Changsha Institute of Mining Research. As the supporting unit of the National Engineering Research Center for Metal Mining, the institute has always adhered to its original aspiration of "serving the country and strengthening the nation through mining." Rooted in the major strategic needs of national mineral resource security, it has delved into fields such as backfill mining, intelligent mining, and comprehensive solid waste utilization for many years. By collaborating with industry forces to continuously carry out technological breakthroughs, equipment development, and engineering applications, a large number of innovative achievements have been implemented in various mines, laying a solid technical foundation for high-quality industry development.
He pointed out that in the face of challenges such as deep mining, high-stress disasters, solid waste disposal, and carbon emission reduction, it is necessary to adhere to innovation leadership, standard priority, and collaborative development. Continuous exploration of the integrated development model of "solid waste backfilling + carbon sequestration + ecological restoration" is essential, along with vigorous promotion of clean energy applications. This will continuously enhance mine safety assurance capabilities, resource utilization efficiency, and ecological governance levels, forging a path for safe, green, intelligent, and low-carbon mining development. He hoped that attending representatives would engage in in-depth exchanges, jointly solve industry challenges, and propel backfill mining technology to new heights, contributing greater efforts to building a beautiful China and ensuring national mineral resource security.

In her address, Pang Yueming stated that after decades of research, China's backfill mining has achieved leapfrog development. Themed on green, intelligent, and low-carbon approaches, this conference focuses on the resource utilization of mining waste, mine intelligence, and ecological restoration. It builds a high-end platform around six major areas to directly address industry bottlenecks. She hoped that all representatives would take this conference as a starting point, adhere to safety, foster green development, stimulate intelligence, and practice low-carbon principles. She encouraged in-depth discussions on technical difficulties and industry pain points, building consensus through exchanges and seeking common development through cooperation.

At the conference, Wu Qiang delivered a special invited report titled "Challenges and Countermeasures for High-Quality Development of the Mining Industry." He systematically elaborated on the path for high-quality mining development, analyzing five major industry challenges: resource exploration, occupational health, mineral recovery rates, efficiency-to-benefit transformation, and green development. He pointed out that mining development needs to shift from "high efficiency" to "high benefit," adhering to the principle of protective mining. By promoting backfill mining technology, the challenge of treating "three wastes" (waste gas, wastewater, and solid waste) can be overcome, achieving the resource utilization of bulk solid waste. The positive ecological benefits generated by mining should be used to repair the ecological damage caused by development, constructing a safe, green, efficient, and people-oriented sustainable mining development system.
Experts and scholars including Liu Yuming, Deputy Chief Engineer of China ENFI Engineering Corporation and Chief Technical Expert of China Minmetals Corporation; Yin Shenghua, Dean of the Graduate School and Professor at the University of Science and Technology Beijing; Zheng Bokun, General Manager of the Backfill Division of Changsha Institute of Mining Research Co., Ltd.; and Guo Lijie, Director of the Mining Engineering Research and Design Institute of BGRIMM Technology Group, delivered keynote reports on topics such as "Discussion on Frontier Technologies for Deep Large-Scale Mining of Metal and Non-Metal Mines," "Research and Application of Large-Flow Backfill Technology for Ultra-Large Underground Mines," "Key Technologies for Tailings-Free Mines," and "New Progress and Development Trends in International Backfill Mining Technology." Focusing on industry hotspots and pain points such as deep mining, paste backfilling, solid waste resource utilization, and intelligent sensing and control, the attending experts and scholars shared their latest research findings and practical experiences, providing strong support through technological innovation for enhancing the intrinsic safety level of mines and empowering the development of new productive forces.

Concurrently with the conference, an intelligent backfill equipment exhibition was held, showcasing to the attending representatives complete sets of intelligent backfill equipment, new types of backfill cementitious materials, and the latest industry research achievements. The conference also organized representatives to visit Luanchuan Jinding Mining Co., Ltd. for an on-site inspection of the construction and operation of a full-process intelligent paste backfill system.
Approximately 500 representatives from universities, research institutes, design institutes, mining enterprises, and equipment manufacturers across the country attended the conference.
