To cope with the surge in summer data traffic, the company will strengthen 5G networks at 3,200 sites in coastal areas and over 700 sites inland. By region, 5G coverage sites in coastal areas will increase by over 42% in Galicia, over 35% in the Balearic Islands, over 31% in the Canary Islands, over 23% in Cantabria, over 23% in Catalonia, over 20% in Andalusia, over 20% in the Basque Country, over 16% in Asturias, and over 8% in Murcia.

In preparation for the solar eclipse on August 12, Vodafone has optimized its network and services at 200 optimal observation points. These locations offer better visibility of the celestial phenomenon, and the company has implemented dedicated monitoring for over 1,700 cells. Last summer, Vodafone customers' data usage in July and August increased by 71.3% compared to the same period in 2024. 5G network data traffic grew by 75.3% in July and 67.4% in August. Voice traffic, however, declined, dropping 5.1% year-on-year in July and 6.3% year-on-year in August.

In terms of data applications, compared to the same period last year, usage in the third week of August increased by 70% for Instagram, 65% for TikTok, 72% for YouTube, and 33% for Facebook. Streaming and messaging applications such as Netflix, WhatsApp, Prime Video, and Spotify also showed growth trends. These figures reflect the growing demand for multimedia content on mobile devices and the critical role of 5G in meeting users' connectivity needs.
