Scheduled for October 30 in Johannesburg, the conference will bring together ICT professionals, employers, and industry analysts to discuss the impact of AI applications on the workforce. Organizations are increasingly integrating generative AI and automation into their operations.

IITPSA President Pearl Pasi stated that AI is likely the most disruptive technology in the modern workplace. As its adoption grows, key questions arise: Will ICT jobs disappear? Will employers upskill employees and assign them to higher-value roles? Do ICT professionals view AI as a threat or an opportunity?

The ongoing ICT skills survey, conducted by Africa Analysis on behalf of IITPSA, polls employers and ICT professionals to gauge their views on AI's impact on employment and skill requirements. Pasi said the conference aims to foster dialogue between employers and technology practitioners around the survey findings and the broader implications of AI-driven workforce transformation, allowing ICT practitioners and employers to reflect on the results together and gain insights from expert speakers and analysts on AI's expected impact on the global workforce and required skills.

The conference agenda will explore ICT skills shortages, workforce development initiatives, and future skill needs, while also offering networking opportunities and an exhibition. The event will conclude with the IITPSA President's Awards 2026 dinner, honoring outstanding ICT professionals, with categories including IT Person of the Year and Visionary CIO, under this year's theme of "Excellence in Ethical Digital Transformation."

Currently, businesses across various industries are grappling with AI's impact on employment. The IITPSA ICT skills survey is expected to provide fresh insights into how South African employers and ICT professionals perceive these changes and the readiness of the local tech workforce. Registration for the IITPSA Workforce Intelligence Conference and President's Awards dinner is now open via the IITPSA website; businesses and practitioners can also participate in the ICT skills survey or nominate candidates for the President's Awards through relevant links.
