en.Wedoany.com Reported - On June 30, NTT Docomo Business, Toshiba, and NEC jointly announced that, as part of an initiative by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) to promote the social implementation of quantum key distribution technology, the three companies have begun constructing a wide-area quantum cryptography communication network connecting the three major metropolitan areas of Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, spanning approximately 600 km. They have also launched a demonstration experiment for quantum key distribution using this network.

This demonstration experiment aims to establish Japan's first wide-area quantum cryptography communication line spanning these three locations, testing the performance, stability, and security of quantum cryptography communication over long distances, as well as examining the network's ease of use for practical operation. At the same time, the experiment plans to involve users from multiple industries to verify the secure circulation of highly confidential data over a wide area and the feasibility of cross-organizational data collaboration.

In addition to technical verification, the three companies are also focusing on the social application of quantum cryptography communication, simultaneously advancing the exploration of business models and the expansion of new users and fields. Specific measures include conducting interviews with participating users to identify issues and expectations from a user perspective, thereby promoting discussions on the practical implementation of the wide-area quantum cryptography communication network.
