en.Wedoany.com Reported - Wabtec recently completed the shipment of 17 locomotives to Australia via the Porto do Açu in Rio de Janeiro. The transport was carried out in three phases: 3 units were shipped in December 2025, 7 in March 2026, and the final 7 in May.

These locomotives were manufactured by Wabtec in Contagem, Minas Gerais, and were stored and prepared for loading at the Multimodal Cargo Terminal (Terminal Multicargas, or T-Mult). Each locomotive measures approximately 20.5 meters in length, 3.07 meters in width, and 4.09 meters in height, weighing about 115 tons, with the total cargo weight nearing 2,000 tons.
Thiago Elias, Logistics and Transport Manager for Wabtec Latin America, stated that the characteristics and dimensions of the equipment required a specific transport strategy, and careful logistics planning was crucial to the success of the export. The infrastructure of Porto do Açu ensured efficiency, safety, and competitiveness at all stages of the operation.
João Braz, Director of Terminal and Logistics at Porto do Açu, assessed that the project demonstrated the complex's ability to meet special operational needs and develop customized logistics solutions for large cargo. He also highlighted the port's operational flexibility beyond storage infrastructure, adapting to the specific requirements of industrial projects.
Both companies stated that the success of this operation resulted from the integration of all parties in the logistics chain, enabling the development of a tailored solution for the international transport of the locomotives.
