en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Southern Common Market (Mercosur) has approved the mutual recognition of digital national identity cards among its member states, meaning Brazilians will be able to use their original documents to access digital services in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, and vice versa. The project has been advancing since last year and was implemented within the bloc on the 29th. The measure will only take effect after being individually approved by the legislatures of the member states.

The regulation requires users to have the highest level of identity authentication, equivalent to the "Gold" (Ouro) level on the Gov.br platform. The platform currently has nearly 180 million users and offers 14,000 services. Brazil's Digital Government Secretary, Rogério Mascarenhas, stated in a declaration that the measure will not only provide convenience for citizens but also benefit companies seeking to conduct business among member states.

At the bilateral level, Brazil and Uruguay have already achieved similar interoperability since 2024. This cooperation also involves the IdLAC project—an interoperable digital identity software for Latin America and the Caribbean, aimed at achieving the same goal. The project is led by the Inter-American Network on Digital Government (Rede GEALC) and funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, and the Co-Develop fund for public digital infrastructure, and is currently underway.
