Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 9, U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order titled "Reinvigorating America’s Beautiful Clean Coal Industry" to boost domestic energy production, with a focus on revitalizing the coal sector. The order seeks to modernize coal technologies, increase production of critical minerals within the country, and speed up the development of mineral extraction methods. Trump highlighted coal’s affordability and abundance, noting its potential to address growing electricity needs driven by data centers and artificial intelligence.
The initiative includes plans to assess coal resources and deposits on federal lands, while removing obstacles that could slow mining activities. Efforts will also prioritize the advancement of clean coal technologies, including those utilizing coal and its byproducts. Additionally, the order calls for a review—and potential reversal—of any existing recommendations or regulations in government agencies that aim to shift the U.S. away from coal usage.
In a statement, Trump said: “Our Nation’s beautiful clean coal resources will be critical to meeting the rise in electricity demand due to the resurgence of domestic manufacturing and the construction of artificial intelligence data processing centres. We must encourage and support our Nation’s coal industry to increase our energy supply, lower electricity costs, stabilize our grid, create high-paying jobs, support burgeoning industries, and assist our allies.” The order reflects a strategy to strengthen energy availability and support economic growth.
The Secretary of the Interior, Secretary of Commerce, and Secretary of Energy are tasked with identifying areas with existing coal infrastructure suitable for supporting data centers and high-performance computing facilities. The U.S. Department of Energy will also reestablish the National Coal Council as a federal advisory body. This council will include representatives from coal producers, users, equipment suppliers, state and local officials, and other key players in the coal industry.
Secretary of Energy Wright commented on the move, stating: “The American people need more energy, and the Department of Energy is helping to meet this demand by unleashing supply of affordable, reliable, secure energy sources—including coal.” Wright added: “Coal is essential for generating 24/7 electricity generation that powers American homes and businesses, but misguided policies from previous administrations have stifled this critical American industry. With President Trump’s leadership, we are cutting the red tape and bringing back common sense.” The order aims to enhance energy reliability while leveraging coal to meet current and future demands.
