en.Wedoany.com Reported - GreenMet, headquartered in Washington, D.C., has announced the launch of a $150 million critical minerals processing center in Rupert, West Virginia. The company primarily connects private capital, government, and the critical minerals industry.

GreenMet stated that the project was developed in coordination with the White House and is fully supported by private investment, without using state subsidies, taxpayer funds, or state incentives. Partners include Flash Metals USA of Houston, AmForge Corporation of Washington, D.C., and Greenbrier Smokeless Coal Company of West Virginia. The parties will combine advanced processing technologies, infrastructure development expertise, and one of the largest reserves of medium-volatile coking coal in the United States to recover rare earth elements from coal tailings and establish a domestic source of critical minerals.

Rare earth minerals are used in advanced technology, defense systems, energy infrastructure, and next-generation manufacturing. The United States currently relies heavily on foreign imports for these strategic materials, and this project aims to ensure domestic supply chain resilience and reduce dependence on overseas production. The facility will operate on a hub-and-spoke model, with Greenbrier County, West Virginia, serving as the central processing hub.

Once fully operational, it is expected to create nearly 250 jobs. In addition to processing coal tailings from West Virginia, the project has signed mineral offtake agreements to process critical minerals from Greenland, the Woodstock manganese project in New Brunswick, Canada, and Cameroon. GreenMet stated that the project has secured an additional $10 billion in private capital commitments to support the development of related processing facilities, mines, and strategic mineral projects.
