en.Wedoany.com Reported - Dimension News, Dominion Energy recently held multiple community meetings in Northern Virginia to update the progress of the Loudoun Reliability Loop series of transmission projects. This series consists of three 500/230 kV transmission lines, aimed at addressing the rapidly growing electricity demand in Loudoun County driven by the expansion of the technology and data center industry, while enhancing the reliability of the regional power grid.
The Golden-to-Mars 500/230 kV transmission project has recently achieved key progress. This project connects the Golden Substation and the Mars Substation, with Line 3A receiving formal approval from the State Corporation Commission on June 29, 2026. Dominion Energy submitted the application for this project on March 28, 2025.
This line is part of Dominion Energy's grid reinforcement plan in Northern Virginia. With the rapid development of local data centers and the technology industry, electricity demand has surged. The project aims to enhance the redundancy and reliability of the regional power grid by constructing new transmission corridors, alleviating the load pressure on existing facilities. The approval of Line 3A signifies that the project has completed the necessary administrative review process, laying the foundation for subsequent construction.
Dominion Energy previously stated that such infrastructure projects must balance energy needs with community impacts during advancement. The two substations connected by the Golden-to-Mars project are both critical nodes in the region's power transmission network, and once completed, the project will help optimize power dispatch and distribution. Together with other grid upgrade projects such as the Loudoun Reliability Loop, this initiative constitutes a key measure to ensure long-term power supply stability in the region.
