en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 14, Siemens and Reinhausen established a strategic partnership in Germany to jointly develop and advance the industrialization of solid-state transformers. The device is designed for DC power supply systems in AI data centers, capable of connecting to AC grids up to 36 kV and delivering a stable 800 V DC output.

The new solid-state transformer adopts a modular architecture and can be adapted to lower voltage levels based on the grid connection conditions of the data center. The device directly converts medium-voltage AC power into 800 V DC and supplies power to downstream DC distribution systems or loads, reducing the intermediate transformation and AC/DC conversion stages found in traditional data center power supply architectures.

Traditional data centers typically require power-frequency transformers, low-voltage distribution equipment, and multi-stage power electronic devices to accomplish AC step-down and DC conversion. The solid-state transformer developed by Siemens and Reinhausen integrates voltage transformation, AC/DC conversion, electrical isolation, and control functions into a single system, with a design featuring well-defined equipment interfaces and protection schemes that enable connection to downstream DC distribution equipment.

Reinhausen will provide expertise in voltage regulation, power quality, grid stability, and medium-voltage power electronic components. Siemens is responsible for grid integration, power conversion, relay protection, automation control, and digital systems. The two parties will jointly complete the architecture development of the solid-state transformer and its subsequent industrialization.

AI training clusters generate rapidly changing power demands during operation, imposing higher requirements on the response speed and continuous operation capability of data center power supply equipment. The new device is planned to respond to load changes within the millisecond range and enhance system scalability through modular configurations, enabling the same technical architecture to accommodate data centers of varying scales and voltage access conditions.

The solid-state transformer is currently in the joint development phase. The two parties plan to initiate series production after completing product development. The specific prototype power rating, testing plan, and mass production timeline have not yet been determined.
