PSE Poland Obtains Construction Permit for Final Section of 400kV Offshore Wind Export Line

en.Wedoany.com Reported - Polish transmission system operator Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE) has announced that it has obtained the construction permit for the final section of the Choczewo–Gdańsk Przyjaźń 400kV transmission line. The Pomeranian Voivodeship Governor approved the construction of the southern section of the line on September 8, meaning the project has now obtained all key administrative permits required for environmental, siting and construction purposes, and can proceed with on-site works. The line is one of the key channels for transmitting electricity from Baltic offshore wind farms to Poland's domestic grid.

The Choczewo–Gdańsk Przyjaźń line is nearly 90 km long, extending from the Choczewo substation to the Gdańsk Przyjaźń substation and passing through 10 municipalities including Choczewo, Gniewino, Kartuzy, Linia, Luzino, Łęczyce, Przodkowo, Somonino, Szemud and Żukowo. The line is one of four highest-voltage export lines being built by PSE in the Pomeranian region, intended to further transmit offshore wind power connected at the Choczewo substation to load centers in inland Poland.

The project is implemented in two sections, north and south. The northern section is being built by a consortium of SPIE Energy Poland and Elfeko, extending from the Choczewo substation to tower No. 64; its main construction and conductor stringing were completed by the end of July 2026, along with trial operation, testing and measurements. The southern section extends from tower No. 64 to the Gdańsk Przyjaźń substation, with Aldesa as the construction contractor; following the obtainment of the final construction permit, the contractor can formally enter the site to carry out construction.

PSE is simultaneously building the Choczewo substation and multiple 400kV lines in northern Poland, forming a backbone grid for the centralized connection of offshore wind power and its transmission inland. Among these, the Choczewo–Żarnowiec line has already been put into operation, while subsequent lines such as Choczewo–Gdańsk Przyjaźń are being built in line with the commissioning schedule of Baltic offshore wind projects. PSE plans to gradually form a complete offshore wind export network in the coming years.

According to PSE's current arrangements, construction of the southern section of the Choczewo–Gdańsk Przyjaźń line will continue in 2026, and the entire line is scheduled for completion in 2028. Once the line is put into operation, it will further expand the capacity of the Choczewo node to transmit offshore wind power to Poland's national power system.
