en.Wedoany.com Reported - Orange Belgium has selected Nokia as its exclusive supplier to drive a major upgrade of its transmission infrastructure, integrating fixed and mobile networks into a single converged optical transport network covering all of Belgium.
This multi-year project aims to modernize Orange Belgium's existing infrastructure, building a more resilient, secure, and scalable network to meet the growing bandwidth demands of consumer and enterprise services. With the proliferation of machine learning applications and the rising demand for remote work, video streaming, gaming, and cloud services, this deployment plan will help Orange Belgium deliver a smoother connectivity experience.
By unifying fixed and mobile transport infrastructure into a single network, Orange Belgium will be able to streamline operational processes and optimize network service delivery. Nokia's AI-powered WaveSuite automation platform will assist Orange Belgium in simplifying network management, improving operational efficiency, and accelerating the time-to-market for new services.
The upgraded optical network will carry Orange Belgium's fixed and mobile traffic from customer premises equipment through metro access and backbone infrastructure, supporting services from 1G to 400G and beyond. This marks the first deployment of Nokia's high-capacity 1830 PSS platform in the core optical transport domain within an Orange Group subsidiary.
The project will integrate Nokia's AI-driven network automation capabilities (via WaveSuite software), end-to-end synchronized management with existing Nokia RAN base stations, enhanced network resilience based on the GMPLS control plane, and thin transponders using the new high-capacity 1830 PSS platform. These initiatives represent a significant step forward in providing reliable and secure connectivity across Belgium to support advanced services.
Philippe Toussaint, Chief Technology Officer of Orange Belgium, stated that as 5G, AI, and quantum security become decisive forces for connecting individuals, businesses, and machines, the company is committed to building a network that meets evolving customer needs while strengthening Belgium's overall digital economy. The partnership with Nokia to unify fixed and mobile optical networks into an advanced single network reflects this commitment.
Guil Yazdi, Nokia's Executive Vice President for Orange customers, noted that the collaboration with Orange Belgium is significant for Nokia. As AI becomes the core workload of the digital economy, network architecture can no longer rely on linear growth or traditional models. By providing leading optical network solutions, Nokia is helping Orange Belgium build the resilient, AI-ready connectivity platform needed to support innovation, enable new machine-to-machine and autonomous services, and ultimately deliver an exceptional customer experience.
