Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 19, Aibel recently held a ceremony to celebrate the impending sail-away of its third and final offshore wind converter platform for the Dogger Bank C project. The event took place at Aibel’s yard in Haugesund, where Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment, Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, performed a rope-cutting ceremony.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm project, along with Aibel and Hitachi Energy. The Dogger Bank wind farm is a joint venture, with SSE Renewables and Equinor each holding a 40% stake, and Vargronn holding the remaining 20%.
In 2023, the project made a significant advancement with the installation of the world’s first unmanned HVDC substation for offshore wind. The Dogger Bank wind farm, which is being developed in three phases (A, B, and C), will have a total capacity of 3.6GW, with each phase contributing 1.2GW. These phases are designed to provide electricity for up to 6 million homes in the UK.
SSE Renewables is leading the development and construction of the wind farm, while Equinor will oversee its operation once completed. The project is expected to have an operational life of approximately 35 years.
