en.Wedoany.com Reported - Renault has integrated Google's Gemini large model into its openR link system, bringing artificial intelligence features to a new generation of connected cars. The manufacturer plans to gradually roll out updates via over-the-air (OTA) technology, enabling thousands of users to access new features without visiting dealerships or repair shops.

Through this integration, Renault introduces an assistant capable of understanding natural conversations, parsing request context, and executing complex tasks via voice commands, aiming to reduce driver distraction and strengthen investments in digitalization and user experience.

Developed in collaboration with Google, the openR link system has been evolving since its debut with the all-electric Megane E-Tech in 2022 and is considered one of the most comprehensive systems on the market. In addition to automatic updates, the system now provides access to apps such as Max, Amazon Music, Waze, SongPop for Renault, and Canal+, as well as new features in Google Maps specifically designed to optimize navigation for electric vehicles.

The arrival of Gemini is an optional update for users who already have Google Assistant. Owners of compatible vehicles can decide whether to activate the new assistant directly from the central screen, provided they are logged into their Google account, and can switch back to the previous version at any time.

One of the key new features is Gemini's ability to control vehicle functions through natural language. For example, instead of using specific commands to adjust the air conditioning or defog the windows, simply saying "I'm cold" allows the system to interpret the driver's intent and make the corresponding adjustments. In navigation, the assistant can plan routes while considering variables such as traffic, tolls, electric vehicle charging stations, or intermediate stops, and adapt in real time to user preferences.
