en.Wedoany.com Reported - Intesa Sanpaolo Group announced the completion of its core IT system cloud migration in collaboration with TIM and Google Cloud. Intesa Sanpaolo completes Google Cloud migration within TIM data centers

The project utilized two Italian Google Cloud regions located in Turin and Milan, hosted within TIM data centers, to securely migrate the foundational components of the banking group's core IT systems.

Over 800 applications have been migrated to the Google Cloud infrastructure, with an equal number decommissioned within the bank's physical headquarters. Google Cloud's secure infrastructure and data processing capabilities, combined with the performance and connectivity of TIM data centers, were the primary drivers of the initiative, enabling the bank to manage massive data transfers between cloud environments and legacy systems at high speed and low latency under stringent security standards. The cloud infrastructure successfully absorbed substantial workloads, ensuring business continuity with no major incidents during the migration phase. An end-to-end governance model managed by TIM effectively reduced risks and controlled costs through FinOps monitoring.

The technological transformation was accompanied by a large-scale employee training program, with over 3,000 Intesa Sanpaolo employees participating and earning more than 170 Google Cloud certifications, over 60 of which were advanced-level. The completion of this phase has solidified the bank's infrastructure, making it one of the more modern, resilient, and sustainable infrastructures in European banking.

Massimo Proverbio, Chief Data, AI, and Technology Officer at Intesa Sanpaolo, stated that the initiative achieved all goals set for 2022-2025 and prepared the groundwork for the 2026-2029 business plan; by collaborating with Google Cloud and TIM, the bank transformed its technology and reduced costs, laying the foundation for building the cloud-native digital technology platform Isytech. Elio Schiavo, Chief Officer of Enterprise and Innovative Solutions at TIM, noted that the project confirmed TIM Enterprise's role as a strategic partner, with the integration of its data centers, connectivity, and cloud solutions enabling the management of a highly complex migration. Raffaele Gigantino, Country Manager for Google Cloud Italy, stated that the two local cloud regions in Milan and Turin allowed Intesa Sanpaolo to meet data residency requirements, and that Google Cloud's infrastructure is designed to provide enterprise-grade solutions for financial institutions.
