Elea Data Centers partners with AXIA Energia to launch the first AI data center in the Amazon region

The facility is expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2027, with an initial capacity of 7.5 megawatts, supported by demand from a large anchor client, and can be expanded to 100 megawatts in future phases. Elea will manage facility operations, while AXIA will provide 100% renewable energy for the project.

The data center will be built near the Miramar high-voltage substation operated by AXIA to ensure high energy reliability, future expansion flexibility, and greater operational efficiency. The electricity required for operations will be supplied through a power purchase agreement (PPA) for renewable energy, reinforcing both companies' commitment to sustainable digital infrastructure development.

The project also includes AXIA's commercialization and land division, through which the company secures a significant position in Brazil's rapidly growing data center market, consolidating its role as a provider of stable, clean energy for new enterprises. AXIA will be responsible for securing the energy supply needed for BEL1 and will work with Elea to evaluate options supporting capacity expansion in future phases.

From a connectivity perspective, Belém holds strategic geographical importance, serving as a complementary and resilient routing alternative to the Fortaleza hub, the country's main submarine cable gateway. The city connects to the northern region's network via information channels from the Norte Conectado program and has gained increased significance with the expansion of coastal fiber optic routes linking to international systems, such as the Europe-to-Latin America route.

This configuration enhances routing diversity, expands the resilience of Brazil's digital infrastructure, and positions Belém as a new strategic hub for the Amazon's digital economy.

Alessandro Lombardi, CEO and founder of Elea Data Centers, stated that the expansion to Belém is a strategic move to broaden the platform's geographic reach and strengthen Brazil's digital infrastructure. The project took shape in 2024, when Belém was confirmed as the host city for COP30, boosting the region's potential to attract structural and sustainable investments. By offering an alternative routing to Fortaleza, the northern region helps reduce digital inequality and enhance regional competitiveness, playing a fundamental role in Brazil's digital ecosystem. The BEL1 project embodies this pioneering spirit, representing a legacy of COP30 and demonstrating the importance of developing sustainable digital infrastructure in strategic and remote regions.

Ítalo Freitas, Vice President of Commercialization and Energy Solutions at AXIA, stated that the partnership with Elea strengthens AXIA's role as an integrated solutions provider for clients, driving innovative and strategic business projects focused on digital transformation. As the largest 100% renewable energy company in the Southern Hemisphere, AXIA has a robust portfolio capable of providing stable, reliable, and sustainable energy to enterprises of this scale, expanding connectivity and promoting investment attraction to drive economic development in the Amazon region.
