en.Wedoany.com Reported - At the 5th International Congress on Stratigraphy, Chinese scientists unveiled the world's first stratigraphic artificial intelligence (AI) large model and an intelligent global stratigraphic correlation system. This marks the first time that Earth's 4.6-billion-year evolutionary history will have a globally shared database.

Stratigraphy is a fundamental discipline for interpreting Earth's evolutionary history, providing core scientific evidence for understanding the origins of life, resource distribution, and climate change. Shen Shuzhong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice Chair of the International Commission on Stratigraphy, stated that the goal is to use a timeline and global big data to sequence all geological records of Earth's 4.6-billion-year history according to a unified time standard.

China possesses strong capabilities in the field of stratigraphy. To date, the country has discovered 11 "golden spikes," or Global Boundary Stratotype Sections and Points (GSSPs), ranking among the top in the world. These "golden spikes" establish internationally recognized "benchmarks" for Earth's evolutionary history, providing a unified reference system for global geological research.

According to the official website of Kunshan Municipal People's Government, the 5th International Congress on Stratigraphy opened on June 29 in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province. This is the first time the flagship conference of the International Commission on Stratigraphy has been held outside Europe and in Asia since its inception. The five-day congress is hosted by the International Commission on Stratigraphy, organized by Nanjing University, and co-organized by the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), and the Suzhou Deep-Time Digital Earth Research Center. Over 700 experts and scholars from 33 countries, including Canada, Germany, the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, and Australia, are participating.
