en.Wedoany.com Reported - Ruben del Pozo Mendoza, National President of the Association of Mining, Metallurgical and Geological Engineers of Mexico (AIMMGM), stated at the opening of the first Guanajuato Mining Forum 2026 that Mexico faces a historic development opportunity, thanks to its abundant strategic mineral resources, internationally recognized professional talent, and an industry foundation capable of generating high economic and social value. The forum officially opened recently in the state of Guanajuato, with a clear call to recognize the strategic role of mining in modern development.

Accompanied by Cristina Villaseñor Aguilar, Minister of Economic Development of Guanajuato, and Flor de María Harp, Director General of the Mexican Geological Survey representing the federal Ministry of Economy, del Pozo Mendoza emphasized that with the growing global demand for minerals required for electric vehicles, solar panels, energy storage systems, and infrastructure, the importance of mining is more pronounced than ever. He pointed out that without mining, it would be impossible to advance the energy transition, industrial development, and future processes.
Del Pozo Mendoza also noted that Guanajuato not only has a deep mining tradition but also continues to shape the future of the industry through innovation and collaboration. The state currently ranks sixth nationally in gold and silver production, creating over 3,600 direct jobs, and is showing renewed vitality driven by projects in cities such as Guanajuato City, Salamanca, Comonfort, Juventino Rosas, and Dolores Hidalgo.
Concluding the forum, del Pozo Mendoza expressed gratitude to the Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, and the Mayor of the capital city, Samantha Smith Gutiérrez, for their open dialogue and support. As a demonstration of promoting inclusivity in the industry, the forum awarded labor competency certificates to 16 women in mining, recognizing their professionalism and contributions.
