en.Wedoany.com Reported - National Grid Ventures (NGV) has announced a targeted consultation on proposed changes to the LionLink project in Suffolk, UK. The consultation runs from July 7 to August 5, 2026, inviting public feedback on updates to the plan, following a broader statutory consultation earlier this year.

LionLink is a planned subsea electricity interconnector linking the UK and the Netherlands, connecting to Dutch offshore wind farms and capable of transmitting up to 2GW of power, sufficient to meet the electricity needs of approximately 2.5 million homes. The current consultation seeks views on a range of local proposals. A key change is an alternative landing point at Walberswick, relocated further away from the village to minimize impacts on residents, footpaths, recreational areas, and the environment. Other updates include modifications near Lymballs Lane in Darsham, such as repositioning temporary haul roads to reduce impacts on nearby properties, traffic, and wildlife. Proposals also involve incorporating Benhall Railway Bridge into the project's operational boundary to facilitate potential works required for construction transport, as well as improvements to access points and boundaries along the cable route to support construction access, safety, and environmental protection.

NGV reports that following the statutory consultation conducted from January to March 2026, nearly 900 feedback responses were reviewed. These responses, combined with ongoing environmental, engineering, and technical assessments, have influenced the project revisions submitted for further comment. The company has also confirmed broader changes to the project plan, including identifying a preferred underground cable corridor route and reducing proposed construction working hours.

Alex Marsh, LionLink Project Director, stated that thanks are due to all who participated in the statutory consultation, and that the feedback has played a significant role in shaping these proposed updates; this targeted consultation is an opportunity to share more details of the proposed changes and hear further views from directly affected communities and stakeholders. NGV is a division of National Grid, responsible for developing and operating the LionLink project.
