en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Government of Canada and the Government of Prince Edward Island, through the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF), are jointly investing over $9.1 million to expand infrastructure in the town of Souris, Prince Edward Island, to support housing development in the community.
This funding is shared among three levels of government, with the federal government contributing $4,569,740, the Government of Prince Edward Island contributing $3,046,189, and the Town of Souris contributing $1,523,551. The project includes extending the town's water, wastewater, and stormwater systems, constructing a new sanitary lift station, creating a naturalized stormwater retention area, and completing road reconstruction work.
Upon completion, these fully serviced lots will be ready for a planned 90-lot residential subdivision. Kent MacDonald, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Cardigan, stated that strong communities rely on reliable water, wastewater, and stormwater systems, and this collaborative investment aims to increase Souris's capacity to support new housing opportunities and sustainable community growth.
Prince Edward Island Premier Rob Lantz believes that investing in infrastructure means investing in the future of the people and the province. Souris Mayor Joanne Dunphy noted that this funding represents a significant step forward for the town, helping to meet growing housing demand and strengthen the local economy.
