en.Wedoany.com Reported - On 18 August, Anglian Water confirmed two consortia for a major project framework worth up to £1.5bn. The selected parties are a joint venture between Spain's Ferrovial Construction and UK-based MWH Treatment, and a consortium comprising VolkerFitzpatrick and VolkerStevin, both part of VolkerWessels UK. The framework covers water supply and wastewater recycling works, with specific projects and contract values to be determined during subsequent task orders.

The framework has an initial term of five years, expected to run until July 2031, with an option to extend for a further five years to 2036, depending on project requirements and supplier performance. The £1.5bn figure represents the estimated maximum procurement value excluding VAT, with an inclusive total of approximately £1.8bn, and does not guarantee that either consortium has secured an equivalent value of construction contracts. Projects may be awarded through direct appointment or secondary competition.

The selected consortia will undertake early contractor involvement, engineering design, construction, commissioning, and supply chain management, covering traditional civil works, green infrastructure, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control and automation systems, as well as water treatment process equipment. Contractors are required to demonstrate full delivery capability from design through to operation and will be responsible for organising the relevant specialist subcontractors and equipment suppliers.

The initial works under the framework will be incorporated into Anglian Water's AMP8 coastal water environment improvement programme, with an investment of over £400m. Key deliverables include expanding sewage storage capacity, upgrading discharge facilities, deploying new treatment processes, and constructing grey and green infrastructure to reduce storm overflow discharges and bacterial pollution affecting coastal bathing waters and shellfish waters. The programme comprises approximately 10 work packages and more than 55 individual schemes, with each package valued at between £15m and £80m.

This framework represents a new delivery route within Anglian Water's £11bn investment programme for 2025 to 2030, operating alongside the existing @one Alliance, Strategic Pipeline Alliance, and Integrated Operational Solutions Alliance. Anglian Water has already invested £1.1bn in water and wastewater infrastructure during the 2025–2026 financial year, with a further £1.6bn planned for 2026–2027, focusing on water supply resilience, wastewater treatment capacity, coastal water quality, and infrastructure to support regional population growth.
