en.Wedoany.com Reported - PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) recently completed Thailand's first full wellhead platform reuse, redeploying a decommissioned oil wellhead platform as a complete structure within the same oil field.

The platform involved in this operation is the Jakrawan K Wellhead Platform (JKWK) in the Funan Field of the G1/61 Project. PTTEP relocated and reinstalled the topside, jacket, and selected pile sections, reducing the overall construction and installation period to six months, compared to approximately 20 months typically required for building a new platform—a reduction of about 70%. Compared to a new-build solution, construction costs can be reduced by approximately 35% to 50%. Additionally, each platform is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 3,270 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, due to the reduced need for steel and other equipment required for new platforms.

During the relocation process, PTTEP used the wet tow method to transport the jacket, reducing energy consumption and minimizing impact on marine life attached to the platform structure. PTTEP CEO Montri Rawanchaikul stated that this approach balances energy production with marine environmental management and reflects the practical application of circular economy principles in oil exploration and production. This is Thailand's first full reuse of a wellhead platform as a complete structure, helping to shorten operational cycles, reduce demand for new resources, and lower greenhouse gas emissions, creating value across economic efficiency, energy security, and environmental sustainability.

PTTEP plans to implement similar reuse for approximately 10 wellhead platforms with intact structures that have passed safety assessments between 2027 and 2029, further improving resource efficiency and extending circular economy principles to broader operations.
