en.Wedoany.com Reported - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has signed a $19.5 million contract with Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company (GLDD) to rebuild the northern end of Ocean City beach using 1.6 million cubic yards of sand, with the project area extending from Seaspray Beach to 12th Street.

The contractor stated that dredging operations will commence between July 7 and July 12, depending on conditions. Currently, the dredge vessel "Illinois" is anchored in Absecon Inlet, north of Atlantic City, awaiting deployment. Equipment is being mobilized and staged at the Morningside Road beach access area, and beachfront parking along Beach Road will be restricted during the project to accommodate construction vehicles. Feeder pipelines from the offshore borrow area will land on the beach at St. Charles Place, and the protected beach will be closed to swimming during the project.

The first phase of the project will proceed southward to 12th Street, with an estimated completion time of 20 days. Work will then shift northward toward Great Egg Harbor Inlet.
