en.Wedoany.com Reported - The British Geological Survey (BGS) has released the second edition of the UK Geothermal Catalogue, adding nearly 14,000 data points from 800 sites for geothermal assessment.

This digital edition includes verified intellectual property and datasets from BGS-authored papers, new BGS thermal conductivity laboratory measurements, and bottom-hole temperature datasets from the UK Onshore Geophysical Library. The UK Geothermal Platform, first launched in 2025 (with an earlier version in 2024), provides information on shallow and deep geothermal potential at national to local scales.
The platform aggregates and integrates information from various sources, delivering content needed for heat policy, heat networks, national zoning models, and planning experts. It can be used to assess the potential for retrofitting geothermal technology in towns, cities, and industrial sites, or to help new developments quickly evaluate the strategic use of geothermal energy early in the planning cycle.
Dr. Alison Monaghan, Head of Geothermal at the British Geological Survey, stated that the public release of the second edition of the UK Geothermal Catalogue further adds to the more than 90 datasets and over 60 reports already available on the platform since August 2025. These data inform the feasibility stage of project development, supporting the growth of the geothermal energy industry, with guidelines describing data sources and known limitations of legacy datasets.
