en.Wedoany.com Reported - Malaysia's 5G network wholesaler Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) announced on Wednesday that it has doubled its mid-band network capacity, while confirming that the second 5G operator, U Mobile, has migrated all its 5G users from the DNB network to its own network.
DNB is activating the newly allocated 3.3–3.4 GHz spectrum. Combined with the existing 3.4–3.5 GHz spectrum, its continuous mid-band total bandwidth reaches 200 MHz, thereby doubling network capacity. The company initially held 200 MHz of 3.5 GHz spectrum blocks, but after the Malaysian government decided to shift from a single 5G network model to a dual-network model, half of the mid-band spectrum was transferred and allocated to U Mobile following its qualification as the second 5G operator in November 2024. Malaysia's Ministry of Communications granted DNB the new 3.3–3.4 GHz spectrum block last October.
To date, over 50 sites have been upgraded, with activation plans for more sites underway. DNB stated that these upgrades will improve efficiency, enhance performance in high-traffic areas, and support advanced data-intensive application scenarios such as artificial intelligence, automation, industrial IoT, and mission-critical services.
DNB CEO Azman Ismail said that the additional capacity, along with planned investments in 5G-Advanced and AI-driven autonomous network management, will help Malaysian enterprises expand digital innovation through DNB's 5G network. He noted that as demand rises and digital opportunities emerge, particularly in AI and enterprise digitalization, DNB is committed to providing a network that drives Malaysia's digital future.
According to DNB data, Malaysia's 5G adoption rate has exceeded 30.3 million 5G subscriptions, accounting for 88% of the mobile market. The majority of users access its network through its shareholders CelcomDigi, Maxis, and YTL Power International.
U Mobile has exited the DNB network, effective June 30, 2026, in line with the government's dual-network model. U Mobile sold its 16.28% stake in DNB in May 2025 and launched its "Ultra5G" standalone 5G network in August 2025. During the gradual deployment of Ultra5G, the operator continued leasing the DNB network to maintain user connectivity. In a statement, U Mobile said its Ultra5G network now covers over 85% of densely populated areas, including more than 190 indoor coverage sites nationwide.
U Mobile CEO Wong Heang Tuck stated that completing the transition gives the company full control over its network, enabling faster innovation and the launch of differentiated products and services to meet the evolving needs of consumers and businesses.
