en.Wedoany.com Reported - Amazon Web Services (AWS) has established a new Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) organization, investing $1 billion to embed artificial intelligence expert engineers directly into enterprise client teams for collaborative work.

AWS stated that this initiative aims to meet client demands for integrating AI into complex use cases and workflows, as enterprises require direct collaboration with specialized engineers to build native AI organizational capabilities.
FDE has three fundamental characteristics: prioritizing agentic systems, compressing project timelines from months to days, and helping clients achieve autonomous operations post-implementation. Unlike traditional consulting models, FDE focuses on long-term capability building rather than project-based billing. AWS noted that clients not only gain new solutions but also acquire ongoing engineering capabilities, including agentic systems running in their AWS environments, AI skills, workflows, and patterns for subsequent independent innovation.
Francessca Vasquez, Vice President of AWS Frontier AI Engineering and Services, stated that the project structure is based on shared objectives and business outcomes, rather than billable hours.
In terms of implementation, FDE employs agentic implementation technologies and an AI-driven development lifecycle, emphasizing AI-enhanced execution under human supervision and dynamic team collaboration. Agentic systems accelerate each phase of the cycle, while human engineers handle validation and guidance. A core component is the semantic layer, deployed by the FDE team in the client's AWS account, connecting enterprise data sources and leveraging AI to build governed and version-controlled knowledge graphs. AWS stated that security is built in from the outset, including hardware-based isolation and end-to-end encryption, with data always remaining within the client's governance framework.
AWS FDE has already collaborated with clients such as the Allen Institute, Cox Automotive, NBA, Ricoh, Southwest Airlines, and NFL.
AWS has also launched a partner-led Forward Deployed Engineering initiative, extending capabilities to strategic consulting partners, who will form engineering teams under AWS certification. AWS expects FDE to primarily target organizations that have moved beyond the experimental phase and need to deploy AI systems into production and integrate them into actual business processes, particularly in regulated industries, financial services, and government sectors with high demands for security, governance, and production speed.
