en.Wedoany.com Reported - Canadian data center operator Beacon Data Centers has unveiled plans for the Calvert Infrastructure Hub, a $6 billion campus located in Mobile County, Alabama.

The project is being developed by a firm backed by Nadia Partners, which currently operates over ten campuses in Alberta, New Brunswick, Texas, California, and Ohio, with a planned capacity of approximately 6 gigawatts. The Calvert Infrastructure Hub will be built on a 650-acre plot, with the facility itself occupying only 95 acres, while the remainder will be preserved as tree buffers and open space. Upon completion, two data center buildings under construction will support cloud computing, artificial intelligence, digital communications, and other online services. In its FAQ, Beacon Data Centers cited the availability of industrial land, the regional workforce, and proximity to power sources as reasons for selecting the site.

Power conditions are a key factor. Beacon Data Centers stated that, unlike some other projects, this hub will not be equipped with diesel backup generators, thus eliminating diesel emissions and generator noise on site. The design incorporates a 1,000-foot setback from property lines and other soundproofing buffers to mitigate potential noise from the facility. The company said the project will cover all energy and infrastructure costs required for operation, including upgrades and expansions needed to connect the facility to the grid. Electricity will be supplied by Alabama Power, and Beacon claims the project will not affect power supply or prices in Mobile County. Regarding water usage, the facility will use a closed-loop water cooling system instead of evaporative cooling to reduce its impact on local water resources.

The project is currently in the planning and engineering phase, with construction of the first building expected to be completed by 2027. The company regularly engages with the community to address resident concerns. Beacon Data Centers anticipates that the hub will create 1,000 construction jobs and up to 250 high-quality operational jobs once operational.
