en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, Elon Musk posted a group photo with the caption that he visited the Optimus robot production line at the Fremont factory. This statement may indicate that Tesla's humanoid robot, Optimus, is entering a critical mass production phase.
Tesla's Fremont factory has long been the company's pioneering manufacturing center in the United States, previously used to produce Tesla's flagship models, the Model S sedan and Model X SUV, and has now become the site of the company's humanoid robot production line.
In late January this year, Musk announced during an earnings call that the Model S and Model X would be discontinued in the second quarter of 2026, with the final vehicles rolling off the line in early May.
Subsequently, Tesla did not repurpose the production line for other vehicle models but instead chose to convert the former Model S and Model X assembly lines into a dedicated production line for the third-generation Optimus.
It is reported that the conversion of the Optimus production line was completed quite rapidly. After the Model S and Model X were discontinued, workers dismantled the existing vehicle production line and installed entirely new modular equipment within about four months, including a production line sourced from Germany and dozens of sub-lines for actuators, batteries, and other components.
Musk described this action as astonishingly fast and noted that it is unprecedented for any other manufacturer. However, he also pointed out that initial production of the Optimus is expected to ramp up slowly, as it involves entirely new technology, vastly different from automobiles.
The Optimus robot has approximately 10,000 unique components and employs entirely new production processes. The ultimate goal of the Fremont production line is to produce 1 million Optimus robots annually.
The official page of Tesla's Fremont factory now lists Optimus alongside Tesla's two other electric vehicle models currently on sale, the Model 3 and Model Y, as core products.
